According to the French champions are still reeling from the departure of Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer and seem intent on exacting some form of revenge. Moreover, PSG are still involved in a legal dispute with Mbappe over an unpaid sum of €55 million (£46m/$60m) in wages. They argue that an alleged verbal agreement between Mbappe and Al-Khelaifi holds legal merit, and hence the dispute remains unresolved.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

PSG have intensified its scouting efforts around Madrid’s youth setup, aiming to recruit some of their best prospects. The move has put Real Madrid on high alert, with the club acting swiftly to secure young talents and prevent any potential poaching by the Parisian side. This week, the Spanish club officially signed 16-year-old Bryan Bugarin to his first contract – widely seen as a response to PSG’s efforts to lure young players away.

Recent events at the Al-Kass International Cup in Doha have added fuel to the fire. Real Madrid’s under-17 team faced off against PSG in the group stage, suffering a defeat. However, Los Blancos secured revenge in the final, defeating the Parisian club to win the tournament.

During the competition, Al-Khelaifi was in attendance, personally congratulating the Real Madrid players. However, Madrid officials were watching closely, wary of any potential recruitment attempts by the PSG president. Given the strained relationship between the two clubs, Madrid remains suspicious of PSG’s continued interest in their youth academy.
